Fusion Body Art has an incredible range of Rainbow Cakes to choose from. They are perfect for face painters and those looking into getting face painted for fun, or those who want to enjoy painting with their kids. If you are not familiar with what a rainbow cake is, please look at the image below:

A Fusion Body Art Rainbow Cake is a multi-colored face paint cake that has stripes of different coloured face paints lined up next to each other producing a rainbow-like effect. They do not just come in traditional rainbow colours, they actually come in many different colour combinations that will allow you to create amazing looking face and body painting designs. Once applied, the colours blend with each other where they meet creating a soft and gentle transition between them.

What are the Ingredients for Fusion Body Art Rainbow Cakes?

Fusion Body Art has two kinds of Rainbow Cakes, those with neons and those without.

  • For the Rainbow Cakes with no neon colours, the ingredients are: Calcium Carbonate, Acacia Senegal Gum, Glycerin, Polyvinylpyrrolidone, PEG-32, Water (Aqua), may contain: Iron Oxides (1332-37-2)(CI77491), Titanium Dioxide (CI77891), FD&C Yellow 5 (CI19140), FD&C Red 40 (CI16035), FD&C Blue 1 (CI42090), Ultramarines (CI77007), D&C Red 7(CI15850), Mica (CI77019), Aluminum Powder (CI 77000) Conforms to (EC) No. 1223/2009. FDA and EU Compliant.

For those that contain neon pigments it is important to note that these paints were developed to glow under a black light but also to have a day glow effect under natural light. Although the pigments used in this range have been widely used in the face and body art industry for over 20 years, the FDA and EU Commission has not yet approved them for cosmetic use, hence their designation as special effects products. Keep in mind that this only means that the FDA and EU have not considered these pigments risky enough to spend their time looking into them, just like it happens with henna and regular tattoo inks. It does not mean they have been banned or determined unsafe by the FDA or the EU. In fact, these neon /uv paints have been tested by independent laboratories and have been determined safe to be used on the skin. Still, because of FDA and EU regulations we are forced to label them as a special effect’s products. In Australia, UV/Neon paints are considered safe for use on the skin by our regulatory agencies.

Fusion’s UV reactive range of colours can be used to create glowing designs that can be seen from far. If you exposed the painted areas to a black light you will see an incredible glowing effect that will make parents and kids go crazy at a black light event or party.

Some Rainbow cakes only use Prime Colours, some only use Pearl Colours, some only use Neon/UV Colours and some use a combination of them.

What is the Overall Consistency of Fusion Body Art Rainbow Cakes?

Consistency can vary by colour, so within one Rainbow Cake some colours might have a slightly different consistency as the rest based on the pigments used and their properties; also, consistency changes based on how long has the face paint been sitting in your kit, or how often it is used. In general, Fusion Body Art Rainbow Cakes tend to have a clay like consistency when new and under normal weather, storage, and transit conditions. During the colder months of winter, because the air is drier and heaters are on, they can dry out a bit and become more brittle. Once warmer months come and humidity level raises and you start using your face paints, they will go back to being softer again. Here is a little video we made to show you what the consistency of most Fusion Body Art Rainbow Cake face paints is when they are fresh from the factory. We don’t suggest doing this at home since we always recommend to keep your face paints in their original container and to never touch them with your bare hands to avoid the spread of germs, bacteria and viruses. But we sacrificed this one cake just to show you how it looks.

What are Fusion Body Art Rainbow Cakes Best For?

Fusion Body Art face painting Rainbow Cakes are great to create super fast and colourful designs in just a few minutes with the stroke of your sponge or brush. Just choose the colour combination that best matches your face painting design idea and play with it. You can swipe it with a sponge across the forehead, or tap it around the eye areas to create butterfly wing like shapes. You can also pick a few colours at the time with your face painting brush and “draw” different shapes with it. These are designed to be the background, and because of how lively coloured they are, all you need is a few strokes on top to finish your designs. These Rainbow Cakes will save you a lot of time because you can load many colors all at once instead of one at a time.

Here is an idea of something that you can face paint by using just a Fusion Body Art Prime Strong Black face paint:

How to Activate Fusion Body Art Rainbow Cakes?

To activate Fusion Body Art Rainbow Cakes all you need is water and a sponge or brush. You should start by dipping the very end of your face painting brush or sponge in the water and wiping any extra water against the edge of your water container to avoid any potential dripping, since that would ruin your designs. Once you have a good water load you should start to rub the brush or sponge against the surface of the makeup going back and forward along (not across) the stripes until you get a nice creamy consistency. That is it! Your Rainbow Cake has been activated, now we need to get painting.

Small Tip: don’t spray water directly onto your rainbow cakes using a spray bottle or mister, it is always best to use your moist brush or sponge to activate your cakes. Spraying water directly onto your Rainbow Cakes can cause them to get soft due to an over saturation with water.

How to Remove or Wash Off Fusion Body Art Rainbow Cake Face Paints?

The easiest way to wash off Fusion Body Art face paints is by using hand or body soap and water. First get a very soft sponge or cloth slightly wet and add some soap to it, you can use liquid hand soap or just soap from a regular bar of soap made for the skin (do not use soaps not intended for skin contact). Then start rubbing the face paint off very carefully, making sure not to rub too hard. The main goal right now is to lift all the pigments off the skin, you should not need to rub very hard at all, just a gentle rubbing will do. Once you have completed these steps you can go ahead and rinse the painted area with warm water. Please, make sure to always do the soap part first and then the rinse, otherwise, if you rinse with water first, before you apply the soap, you might end up with some temporary stains. You can repeat these steps twice, always making sure to be gentle so that you don’t hurt the skin.

Something to Keep in Mind: different kinds of skin types can react differently to each colour, Some people might get slightly stained by greens, while others might do it with blues or yellow. You should also know that different areas of your skin will react different. Areas where your skin is slightly dryer, like your hands, will tend to stain easier than areas that are usually a bit greasier (like your forehead). A special note should be made about your fingertips as they can stain a lot easier than most parts of your body.

Fusion Body Art has spent a considerable amount of time researching pigments and base ingredients to make sure that our face paints are less likely to stain when compared to other brands available in the market. Please know that no one can truly guarantee a completely stain free experience since it not only depends on the pigments used but also on the skin type of the person getting painted and the removal process, as explained above, but with Fusion you know you are a lot less likely to be stained in general.

Fusion Body Art Rainbow Cakes – Face & FX Paints Review

As you will notice by visiting our Fusion Body Art Rainbow Cakes category page on our website, we have many different kinds of Rainbow Cakes to choose from.

Here is a picture of some of the cakes within our current selection, but keep visiting our website as we release new ones often:

Our selection of Rainbow Cakes keeps growing every year and it would be almost impossible to review each one of them but we do want to make a special note on some of them. Keep in mind that if we did not mention the rest, is not because they are not special or worth it, but rather because they might have similarities with those that have been mentioned.

Let us start with Fusion Body Art Rainbow Joy. Of all of the rainbow like cakes in this face paint range, this is one of the brightest non-neon Rainbow Cakes that Fusion Body Art has, and this is due to the combination of colours like magenta, bright yellow and lime green

This is likely the closest you will get to a neon look using only Prime and Pearl colours. You can use it to create all of your rainbow style designs, super happy butterflies, hippie inspired designs and more! This is a very popular Rainbow Cake within our range and one that boys and girls love!

There is likely no better face paint rainbow cake out there for Mermaids than Mermaid Splash. Mermaid designs have quickly become one of the most requested face painting designs, and this cake will have kids going crazy over it! Paint beautiful mermaid crowns, or even a butterfly inspired by mermaid colours with some seashells to add to the look. This cake is really one of a kind and it will become a staple in your kit.

Unicorns are a very popular design choice these days and the best way to quickly face paint a unicorn design is with a Rainbow or a Split Cake. One of our favorite Fusion Body Art Rainbow Cakes is Unicorn Party. As the name indicates this is pretty much a party in a box filled with unicorns. The colors are just super bright and will stand out from far away. Use it to create the horn, or a colourful mane, or to paint the full unicorn face with it. Once one kid sees it, everyone will want it!

You can not have a complete set of Rainbow Cakes if you don’t have a tiger cake. Tiger faces have likely been one of the most popular face painting designs since face painting existed, and Fusion Body Art offers two great cakes to paint tigers in just seconds. We love both and truly you are likely going to want to get both, but we chose to feature Tropical Tiger just because it is such a bright and exciting rainbow cake.

Fusion Body Art Tropical Tiger not only is perfect for a regular tiger face (if you don’t pick up the pink) but also perfect for a more flashy looking tiger face with a tropical touch when you use all four colours. But don’t get stuck with using it just for tigers, this rainbow cake can also make beautiful butterflies, a background for a tropical design, tropical looking flowers and more! Last but not least, we can’t forget about likely the number one face painting design: butterflies! Butterflies are one of the most requested face painting designs and a face painting kit can not be complete unless you have some Rainbow Cakes to paint great looking butterflies, and likely no cake is better for that than Leanne’s Tropical Butterfly Rainbow Cake.

This gorgeous and extremely bold Rainbow Cake was designed by the one and only Leanne Courtney, an amazing professional face painter with an incredible eye for colour. Leanne’s Tropical Butterfly is by far one of our best selling rainbow cakes for butterflies, but it can also be used for tropical looking designs, flowers, etc. If you load just the left side of the cake and leave the pinks out, you can also use it for the boys that are not big fans of pink. Tropical Butterfly is a very versatile cake and one that has to be part of your face painting it.

Now that you have seen some of the beautiful Fusion Body Art Rainbow Cakes and learned how to use them you can visit our website and see our entire collection.
